Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Mechanical: Testing and Inspection
SYSTEM INSPECTION
- Warm up engine to normal operating temperature.
Checking Throttle Opener Operation:
- Check that there is clearance between throttle stop screw and throttle lever at engine stop and cranking and that 0 - 1.0 second after engine start, throttle opener rod retracts and clearance disappears.
- If check result is not satisfactory, check vacuum hoses, throttle opener, VSV and system electric circuit.
VACUUM HOSES INSPECTION
Checking Vacuum Hoses:
- Check hoses for connection, leakage, clog and deterioration. Replace as necessary.
THROTTLE OPENER INSPECTION
- Disconnect vacuum hose from VSV.
- Connect vacuum pump gauge to hose disconnected.
Checking Throttle Opener:
- Check that opener rod moves smoothly and that it is held at the same position when 50 cmHg vacuum is applied to opener.
- If rod doesn't move smoothly, or it isn't held at the same position, replace.
VSV (VACUUM SWITCHING VALVE) INSPECTION
- With ignition switch OFF, disconnect connector from VSV.
Checking VSV Resistance:
- Check resistance between two terminals of VSV.
VSV RESISTANCE
39 ohms
- If resistance is as specified, proceed to next operation check. If not, replace.
- Disconnect vacuum hoses from throttle opener and intake manifold.
Checking VSV Operation:
- Blow into hose "A". Air should come out of hose "B" and not out of filter.
Checking VSV Operation:
- Connect 12V battery to VSV terminals. In this state, blow hose "A".
- Air should come out of filter and not out of hose "B".
- If check result is not as described above, replace VSV.
- Connect VSV connector securely.
- Connect vacuum hoses securely.
