ABNORMAL OPERATION OF AUDIO STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS (AUDIO REMOTE CONTROL)

CONDITION:
The Audio Steering Wheel Controls intermittently operate abnormally as described below:
^ When the SEEK button is pushed, the radio will change modes intermittently from FM to AM.
^ When the volume is pressed the radio may intermittently change mode or turn off.
^ Radio may intermittently change stations or turn off by itself.
CAUSE:
Loss of grounding when steering wheel is turned.
CORRECTION:
The current grounding position in the circuit will be changed from the steering wheel to the knee bolster. Please follow the procedure below.

Repair Procedure
1. Write down the radio station presets. Follow the removal and installation procedure in the appropriate Service Manual to replace the Clock Spring and Clock Spring Extension Wires A & B.
IMPORTANT:
Remove the AIRBAG ADAPTING WIRING HARNESS with the old clock spring if it was added to the affected vehicle as per "KB" Recall. Refer to the Verona Service Bulletin TS 03 02244 for details. Follow step 2 for ground wire location and mounting.
2. Before reinstalling the knee bolster attach the ground wire of the new Clock Spring to the knee bolster mounting bracket as shown.
3. Tie the Extension Wires together as shown. Then reinstall the Knee Bolster and Instrument Panel Lower Trim. Enter radio security code if necessary. Reprogram radio presets.
