Alternator: Service and Repair




Generator: Removal and Installation - VQ40DE Models










Removal

1) Disconnect the negative battery terminal.Refer to [Battery: Removal and Installation] Removal and Replacement.
2) Partially drain engine coolant. Refer to [Changing Engine Coolant] Service and Repair.
3) Remove engine room cover. Refer to [Engine Room Cover: Removal and Installation] Service and Repair.
4) Remove front engine undercover.
5) Remove air duct and resonator assembly. Refer to [Air Cleaner and Air Duct: Exploded View] Exploded View.
6) Remove upper radiator hose.
7) Disconnect coolant reservoir hose from radiator.

NOTE:
Cap or plug opening(s) to prevent fluid from spilling.

8) Remove the crankcase ventilation hose.
9) Remove the fan shroud. Refer to [Radiator: Exploded View] Exploded View.
10) Remove engine cooling fan (Motor driven type). Refer to [Engine Cooling Fan: Removal and Installation (Motor driven type)] Motor Driven Type.
11) Remove the drive belt. Refer to [Drive Belts: Removal and Installation] Removal and Installation.
12) Remove generator stay, using power tools.
13) Remove the generator upper bolt, using power tools.
14) Disconnect the generator harness connectors.
15) Remove the generator.

Installation

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

- Install the generator and check tension of drive belt. Refer to [Drive Belts: Adjustment] Adjustments.






CAUTION:
Be sure to tighten terminal "1" nut carefully.

- For this model, the power generation voltage variable control system that controls the power generation voltage of the generator has been adopted. Therefore, the power generation voltage variable control system operation inspection should be performed after replacing the generator, and then make sure that the system operates normally. Refer to [Power Generation Voltage Variable Control System Operation Inspection] Power Generation Voltage Variable Control System Operation Inspection.
