Starter Relay: Testing and Inspection

1. On 1989-91 Camry models, starter relay is located behind the LH side of the instrument panel.
2. On 1992 Camry models, starter relay is located behind the center of the instrument panel.
3. On Celica models, starter relay is located behind the RH kick panel.
4. On 1989 Corolla models, starter relay is located in the No. 1 junction block.
5. On 1990-92 Corolla and 1989 MR2 models, starter relay is located in No. 2 junction block in the engine compartment.
6. On 1991-92 Cressida models, starter relay is located behind the LH front kick panel.
7. On 1991-92 MR2 models, starter relay is located on the LH side of the luggage compartment.
8. On Pickup, 4Runner and 1989-91 Tercel models, the starter relay is located in the No. 1 junction block.
9. On 1992 Paseo and Tercel, the starter relay is located behind the center of the instrument panel.
10. On Previa models, starter relay is located below the LH side of instrument panel.
11. On Supra models, starter relay is located behind the LH side kick panel.
12. On Van models, starter relay is located in the LH side of the engine compartment.

13. On all models, using a suitable ohmmeter, check relay continuity as follows:
a. Ensure continuity between terminal Nos. 1 and 3, Fig. 9.
b. No continuity should exist between terminal Nos. 2 and 4.
c. If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.
14. Using suitable ohmmeter, inspect relay operation as follows:
a. Apply battery voltage across terminal Nos. 1 and 3.
b. Using suitable ohmmeter, ensure continuity exists between terminal Nos. 2 and 4.
c. If continuity is not as indicated, replace relay.
