Axle Nut

Install the axle hub with the disc, as follows:
a. Place the axle hub on the spindle.
b. Install the bearing and thrust washer.

Adjust the preload, as follows:





a. Install and torque the nut.

Torque: 35 Nm (26 ft. lbs.).

b. Snug down the bearing by turning the hub several times.
c. Loosen the nut until it can be turned by hand.





d. Using a spring tension gauge, measure and make a note of the frictional force of the oil seal.

Preload (at starting): 4.0 N (0.9 lbs.) or less.

NOTE: Make sure to check preload in the direction of rotation.





e. Tighten the nut until the preload is within the specification.

Preload (at starting): 5.0 - 14.0 N (1.1 - 3.1 lbs.).

NOTE: Make sure to check preload in the direction rotation.





f. Using a dial indicator, measure the hub bearing backlash.

Backlash: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch).
