Back Door Closer does not Operate

DESCRIPTION

When the back door closer does not operate, one of the following may be the cause: 1) improper fit of back door, or a foreign object is stuck in back door, or 2) initialization of the power back door ECU, or 3) power back door ECU power source circuit malfunction, or 4) back door lock circuit malfunction, or 5) power back door ECU malfunction.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE

1. CHECK BACK DOOR LOCK FUNCTION
(a) Check if the back door is fully closed by hand.

NG -- IMPROPER FIT OF BACK DOOR, OR A FOREIGN OBJECT IS STUCK IN BACK DOOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

2. INITIALIZE POWER BACK DOOR ECU
(a) Check that the power back door drive unit (power back door ECU) can be initialized Initialization.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.

3. CHECK BACK DOOR CLOSER SYSTEM
(a) Check that the back door closer system operates normally.
OK:
Back door closer system operates normally.

NG -- CHECK DTC OUTPUT
OK -- END
4. CHECK DTC OUTPUT
(a) Check for the DTCs Back Door Closer System.

Result





C -- GO TO DTC CHART
B -- GO TO DTC CHART
A -- Continue to next step.

5. INSPECT FUSES (ECU-IG NO. 2, ECU-B1, PBD)
(a) Remove the ECU-IG No. 2, ECU-B1, and PBD fuses.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





(c) Reinstall the fuses.

NG -- CHECK FOR SHORTS IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE
OK -- Continue to next step.

6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (POWER SOURCE)
(a) Disconnect the O30 power back door ECU connector.





(b) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Voltage:





(c) Reconnect the power back door ECU connector.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BODY GROUND)
(a) Disconnect the O30 power back door ECU connector.





(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





(c) Reconnect the power back door ECU connector.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

8. INSPECT BACK DOOR LOCK





(a) Remove the back door lock Removal.
(b) Apply battery voltage and check the operation of the door lock motor.

Apply Battery Voltage:





(c) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
Latch Switch





Standard Resistance:

Back Door Courtesy Light Switch





NG -- REPLACE BACK DOOR LOCK
OK -- Continue to next step.

9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BACK DOOR LOCK - POWER BACK DOOR ECU AND BODY GROUND)





(a) Disconnect the V5 door lock connector.
(b) Disconnect the O30 ECU connector.
(c) Disconnect the V2 and V3 ECU connector.
(d) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

Standard Resistance:





(e) Reconnect the door lock and ECU connector.

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK -- Continue to next step.

10. REPLACE POWER BACK DOOR DRIVE UNIT (POWER BACK DOOR ECU)
(a) Temporarily replace the power back door drive unit (power back door ECU) with a new or normally functioning one Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.

11. CHECK BACK DOOR CLOSER SYSTEM (OPERATION)
(a) Check that the back door closer operates normally.
OK:
It operates normally.

NG -- REPLACE BACK DOOR ECU
OK -- END (POWER BACK DOOR UNIT (POWER BACK DOOR ECU) DEFECTIVE)
