DTC C1274/74 - Low Output Signal of Rear Speed Sensor LH (Test Mode DTC)

DTC C1277/77 - Abnormal Change in Output Signal of Rear Speed Sensor RH (Test Mode DTC)

DTC C1278/78 - Abnormal Change in Output Signal of Rear Speed Sensor LH (Test Mode DTC)

DTC C1332/37 - Open Circuit in Right Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

DTC C1333/38 - Open Circuit in Left Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Circuit

DESCRIPTION

The speed sensors detect the wheel speeds and send appropriate signals to the skid control ECU.
Speed sensor rotors have rows of alternating N and S magnetic poles, and their magnetic fields change as the rotors turn.
The speed sensors detect those magnetic changes and send pulse signals to the skid control ECU. The ECU monitors the wheel speeds through these pulse signals to control the ABS control system.

HINT:
- DTCs C0210/33 and C1332/37 are for the rear speed sensor RH.
- DTCs C0215/34 and C1333/38 are for the rear speed sensor LH.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE
NOTICE:
- When replacing the VSC actuator assembly, perform zero point calibration Programming and Relearning.
- Check the speed sensor signal in test mode after cleaning or replacement Test Mode Procedure.

PROCEDURE

1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (REAR SPEED SENSOR)
(a) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
(b) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(c) Select the Data List mode on the Techstream.

ABS/VSC/TRAC

(d) Check that the speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream and the speed value displayed on the speedometer are almost the same when driving the vehicle.
OK:
The speed value output from the speed sensor displayed on the Techstream is the same as the actual vehicle speed.
HINT: There is a tolerance of +/-10% in the speedometer indication.

NG -- CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION
OK -- Continue to next step.
2. PERFORM TEST MODE INSPECTION (SIGNAL CHECK)
(a) Perform a TEST MODE inspection and check for DTCs Test Mode Procedure.
OK:
No DTCs output.
NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT)
OK -- Continue to next step.
3. RECONFIRM DTC
(a) Clear the DTC(s) Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
(b) Start the engine.
(c) Drive the vehicle at a speed of 20 km/h (12 mph) or more for at least 60 seconds.
(d) Check if the same DTC(s) is output Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.

Result

B -- REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR
A -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
4. CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR INSTALLATION

(a) Check that the speed sensor installation bolt is tightened properly.
Torque:
11 N*m (107 kgf*cm, 8 ft.*lbf)
OK:
The installation bolt is tightened properly.
NG -- TIGHTEN BOLT PROPERLY
OK -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR
(a) Visually check the speed sensor for deformation and damage.
OK:
No deformation or damage.
There is no gap between the sensor and rear axle carrier.
NG -- REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
6. CHECK SPEED SENSOR TIP
(a) Remove the speed sensor Removal.
(b) Check the sensor tip.
OK:
No scratches or foreign matter on the sensor tip.
NG -- CLEAN OR REPLACE SPEED SENSOR
OK -- Continue to next step.
7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SKID CONTROL ECU - REAR SPEED SENSOR)

(a) Confirm that the skid control ECU connector and speed sensor connector are properly connected.
(b) Disconnect the A17 ECU connector.
(c) Disconnect the b3 and b4 sensor connectors.
(d) Inspect both the connector case and the terminal for deformation and corrosion.
OK:
No deformation or corrosion.
(e) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance:
for RH

for LH:

NG -- REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (SPEED SENSOR CIRCUIT)
OK -- Continue to next step.
8. CHECK REAR SPEED SENSOR (INPUT VOLTAGE)

(a) Reconnect the A17 ECU connector.
(b) Disconnect the b3 and b4 sensor connectors.
(c) Turn the ignition switch to ON.
(d) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Voltage:

NG -- REPLACE VSC ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY
OK -- Continue to next step.

Result

B -- USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK
A -- Continue to next step.
10. REPLACE REAR SPEED SENSOR
(a) Replace the rear speed sensor Removal.
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
11. RECONFIRM DTC
