Applicability

Introduction

Some Tundra vehicles may exhibit localized corrosion or perforation in specific areas on the inside of the bed floor surface. This may be indicated by bubbling or blistering of the paint in those specific areas. Follow the directions provided in this bulletin to address this condition.

This bulletin applies to vehicles produced BEFORE the Production Change Effective VINs shown.

Repair Procedure





1. Inspect the bed floor surface in the specified areas shown in Figure 1.

A. If the paint is bubbling or rust/corrosion is present on the topside (as viewed from above) of these specified areas of the floor surface then perforation of the underlying sheet metal has occurred.

B. If bubbling or rust/corrosion is not present in the specified areas identified in Figure 1 STOP.

This bulletin does NOT apply.

2. Remove the rear bumper assembly.





Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), applicable model and model year Repair Manual:

3. Disconnect the frame wire harness.





A. Disconnect the connectors.

B. Disconnect the clips and the frame wire harness from the bed assembly.

4. Remove the rear mudguards (if equipped).

5. Remove the fuel tank filler pipe shield.





6. Remove the 2 nuts and disconnect the fuel inlet pipe.

7. Remove the bed assembly.

8. Using a Torx(R) T55H Tamper Resistant Socket, remove the Torx(R) bolts from the bed assembly.

A. 5.5ft & 6.5ft - bolts

B. 8.1ft - bolts

NOTICE

Use 4 or more people to remove the bed assembly from the frame. Evenly support the bed assembly when removing it.

9. Install new bed assembly.

NOTE

Prior to installation, confirm new bed assembly has been properly sealed using hemming and sealing procedures outlined in CRIB Bulletin # 163: Sealing Hem-Flanges and Body Seams.

10. Using a Torx(R) T55H Tamper Resistant Socket, reinstall the Torx(R) bolts to the bed assembly and tighten to specification.

A. 5.5 ft & 6.5 ft - 6 Torx(R) bolts

B. 8.1 ft - 8 Torx(R) bolts

Torque: 66 N*m (673 kgf*cm, 49 ft*lbf)

NOTICE

Use 4 or more people to reinstall the bed assembly to the frame. Evenly support the bed assembly when reinstalling it.





11. Install bumper assembly. Refer to TIS, applicable model and model year Repair Manual:
