Touch Select 2-4 and High-Low System








JF1A TRANSFER: TOUCH SELECT 2-4 AND HIGH-LOW SYSTEM: ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

1. INSPECT INDICATOR LIGHT
(a) 4HI Indicator Light:
(1) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(2) Change the 4WD control switch from 2WD to 4H.




(3) Check the 4HI indicator light.
OK:






If there is a malfunction, inspect the switch, ECU, transfer shift actuator and A.D.D. actuator. If the system is normal, there may be a malfunction in the CAN communication system or combination meter. In this case, first check the CAN communication system Service Precautions. Then check the combination meter How To Proceed With Troubleshooting.
(b) 4LO Indicator Light:
(1) Turn the ignition switch ON.
(2) Change the 4WD control switch from 2WD to 4H. Then change it from 4H to 4L after the 4HI indicator light illuminates (after 4H switch completion).




(3) Check the 4LO indicator light.
OK:






If there is a malfunction, inspect the switch, ECU and actuator. If the system is normal, the combination meter may be malfunctioning.
2. INSPECT FUSE (4WD)
(a) Remove the 4WD fuse from the main body ECU.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





If a fuse is blown, inspect the harness connected to the fuse for a short circuit, and repair or replace the harness or replace the fuse.
3. INSPECT 4WD CONTROL ECU (POWER SUPPLY)





(a) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





If there is a malfunction, inspect the harness or connector. If the harness is malfunctioning, repair or replace harness or connector. If the harness or connector is normal, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal.
(b) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard resistance:





If there is a malfunction, repair or replace the harness or connector.
4. INSPECT 4WD CONTROL ECU (4WD CONTROL SWITCH)





(a) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:





If there is a malfunction, check the power supply. If the power supply is normal, inspect the 4WD control switch Testing and Inspection.
5. INSPECT 2WD-4WD TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR
HINT: After inspecting the power supply or 4WD control switch, inspect the 2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator.

(a) Check the harness and connector (ECU - 2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator).
(1) Disconnect the D67 actuator connector.
(2) Disconnect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(3) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard resistance:






If there is a malfunction, repair or replace harness or connector. If the harness or connector is normal, check the ECU output voltage.
(b) Check the 4WD control ECU (2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator).
(1) Connect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(2) Connect the D67 actuator connector.




(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






If there is a malfunction, determine if the malfunction is on the ECU side or the actuator side by disconnecting the connector of the 2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator, and then checking the ECU output voltage.
(c) Check the 4WD control ECU.
(1) Disconnect the D67 actuator connector.
(2) Connect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.




(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






If there is a malfunction, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal. If the voltage is normal, inspect the 2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator, as the voltage applied to the motor cannot be measured.
(d) Inspect the 2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator.
(1) Remove the transfer shift actuator Disassembly.
(2) Check the 2WD to 4WD HIGH switch.
Connect lines via a relay as shown in the illustration, then check that the actuator fork moves from the 2WD to 4WD HIGH position.
NOTICE:
- Make sure to perform this inspection with the actuator removed from the vehicle. If this inspection is performed with the actuator installed to the vehicle, the actuator will be damaged.
- When inspecting the actuator, make sure to operate it with the lines connected via a relay. If the lines are not connected via a relay and battery voltage is directly applied to the actuator, the actuator will be damaged.
HINT: When inspecting the operation described above, use the stop light control relay (BRK NO. 1).





1. After the 2WD to 4WD HIGH switch is complete, inspect the 4WD detection switch and limit switch.
Standard resistance:





(3) Check the 4WD HIGH to 2WD switch.
Connect lines via a relay as shown in the illustration, then check that the actuator fork moves from the 4WD HIGH to 2WD position.





1. After the 4WD HIGH to 2WD switch is complete, inspect the 4WD detection switch and limit switch.
Standard resistance:






If there is a malfunction, replace the transfer shift actuator Disassembly. If the transfer shift actuator is normal, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal.

6. INSPECT A.D.D. ACTUATOR
HINT: After inspecting the 2WD-4WD transfer shift actuator, inspect the A.D.D. actuator.

(a) Check the harness and connector (ECU - A.D.D. actuator).
(1) Disconnect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(2) Disconnect the G1 actuator connector.
(3) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard resistance:






If there is a malfunction, repair or replace harness or connector. If the harness or connector is normal, check the ECU output voltage.
(b) Check the 4WD control ECU (A.D.D. actuator).
(1) Connect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(2) Connect the G1 actuator connector.




(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






If there is a malfunction, determine if the malfunction is on the ECU side or the actuator side by disconnecting the connector of the A.D.D. actuator, and then checking the ECU output voltage.
(c) Check the 4WD control ECU.
(1) Connect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(2) Disconnect the G1 actuator connector.




(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






If there is a malfunction, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal. If the voltage is normal, inspect the A.D.D. actuator, as the voltage applied to the motor cannot be measured.
(d) Inspect the A.D.D. actuator.
(1) Remove the A.D.D. actuator Removal.
(2) Check the Free to Lock switch.
Connect lines via a relay as shown in the illustration, then check that the actuator fork moves from the Free to Lock position.
NOTICE:
- Make sure to perform this inspection with the actuator removed from the vehicle. If this inspection is performed with the actuator installed to the vehicle, the actuator will be damaged.
- When inspecting the actuator, make sure to operate it with the lines connected via a relay. If the lines are not connected via a relay and battery voltage is directly applied to the actuator, the actuator will be damaged.
HINT: When inspecting the operation described above, use the stop light control relay (BRK NO. 1).





1. After the Free to Lock switch is complete, inspect the A.D.D. detection switch and limit switch.
Standard resistance:





(3) Check the Lock to Free switch.
Connect lines via a relay as shown in the illustration, then check that the actuator fork moves from the Lock to Free position.





1. After the Lock to Free switch is complete, inspect the A.D.D. detection switch and limit switch.
Standard resistance:






If there is a malfunction, replace the A.D.D. actuator Removal. If the A.D.D. actuator is normal, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal.

7. INSPECT HIGH-LOW TRANSFER SHIFT ACTUATOR
HINT: Before the inspection, check that the system is switched from 2WD to 4WD normally.

(a) Check the harness and connector (ECU - actuator).
(1) Disconnect the D68 high-low transfer shift actuator connector.
(2) Disconnect the A25 and A26 ECU connector.
(3) Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.





Standard resistance:






If there is a malfunction, repair or replace harness or connector. If the harness or connector is normal, check the ECU output voltage.
(b) Check the 4WD control ECU (high-low transfer shift actuator).
(1) Connect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(2) Connect the D68 actuator connector.




(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






If there is a malfunction, determine if the malfunction is on the ECU side or the actuator side by disconnecting the connector of the high-low transfer shift actuator, and then checking the ECU output voltage.
(c) Check the 4WD control ECU.
(1) Connect the A25 and A26 ECU connectors.
(2) Disconnect the D68 actuator connector.




(3) Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard voltage:






If there is a malfunction, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal. If the voltage is normal, inspect the high-low transfer shift actuator, as the voltage applied to the motor cannot be measured.
(d) Inspect the high-low transfer shift actuator.
(1) Remove the transfer shift actuator Disassembly.
(2) Check the 4WD HIGH to 4WD LOW switch.
Connect lines via a relay as shown in the illustration, then check that the actuator fork moves from the 4WD HIGH to 4WD LOW position.
NOTICE:
- Make sure to perform this inspection with the actuator removed from the vehicle. If this inspection is performed with the actuator installed to the vehicle, the actuator will be damaged.
- When inspecting the actuator, make sure to operate it with the lines connected via a relay. If the lines are not connected via a relay and battery voltage is directly applied to the actuator, the actuator will be damaged.
HINT: When inspecting the operation described above, use the stop light control relay (BRK NO. 1).





1. After the 4WD HIGH to 4WD LOW switch is complete, inspect the neutral detection switch and limit switch.
Standard resistance:





(3) Check the 4WD LOW to 4WD HIGH switch.
Connect lines via a relay as shown in the illustration, then check that the actuator fork moves from the 4WD LOW to 4WD HIGH position.





1. After the 4WD LOW to 4WD HIGH switch is complete, inspect the neutral detection switch and limit switch.
Standard resistance:






If there is a malfunction, replace the transfer shift actuator Disassembly. If the transfer shift actuator is normal, replace the 4WD control ECU Removal.
