How To Proceed With Troubleshooting
ENGINE IMMOBILISER: ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM (w/ Smart Key System): HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING

* Use the following procedures to troubleshoot the engine immobiliser system.
* Techstream should be used in steps 5 and 7.
1. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO WORKSHOP

2. CUSTOMER PROBLEM ANALYSIS CHECK
HINT
* In troubleshooting, confirm that the problem symptoms have been accurately identified. Preconceptions should be discarded in order to make an accurate judgment. To clearly understand what the problem symptoms are, it is extremely important to ask the customer about the problem and the conditions at the time the malfunction occurred.
* Gather as much information as possible for reference. Past problems that seem unrelated may also help in some cases.
* The following 5 items are important points in the problem analysis:

3. INSPECT BATTERY VOLTAGE
(a) Measure the battery voltage.
Standard voltage:
11 to 14 V
(b) If the voltage is below 11 V, recharge or replace the battery before proceeding to the next step.

4. CRANK ENGINE FOR MORE THAN 10 SECONDS
NEXT -- Continue to next step.
5. CHECK FOR DTCS
(a) Check for DTCs and note any codes that are output Engine Immobiliser System (w/ Smart Key System).
(b) Delete the DTCs.
(c) Recheck for DTCs. Based on the DTCs output above, try to duplicate the SFI system DTC, engine immobiliser system DTC, steering lock system DTC, or smart key system (starting) DTC by simulating the symptoms indicated by the DTCs.
Result:
A -- GO TO SFI SYSTEM (DTC CHART)
B -- GO TO ENGINE IMMOBILISER SYSTEM (DTC CHART)
C -- GO TO STEERING LOCK SYSTEM (DTC CHART)
D -- GO TO SMART KEY SYSTEM (STARTING) (DTC CHART)
E -- Continue to next step.
6. PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
