Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Connect a timing light to the engine. Disconnect and plug both vacuum lines to the distributor.
2. Start the engine and run it at idle. Idle should be no more than 950 rpm, adjust as necessary.
3. Slowly turn the distributor until the timing mark on the crankshaft pulley, when illuminated by the timing light, indicates 12° BTDC.
4. Tighten the distributor lockdown bolt and ensure that timing is still within spec.
5. Reconnect vacuum lines to the distributor.
