Check Engine Lamp
The check engine lamp will be illuminated when the ignition switch is in the On position with engine not operating. When engine is started, the Check Engine lamp should go off. If lamp remains on, a code has been stored by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU) memory. After diagnosis and repair, place ignition switch in Off position, then clear codes stored in the ECU memory by removing the AM-2 fuse on all except 1991 models. On 1991-92 models, remove the EFI (15A) fuse. The AM-2 fuse is located in relay panel, in the engine compartment, on the driver's side. The EFI fuse is located in the relay panel, lefthand side of the engine compartment. The fuse must be removed for 10 seconds or longer, depending on ambient temperature. The lower the ambient temperature, the longer the fuse will have to be removed. Another method to erase stored codes is to disconnect the battery negative cable. This method will also erase any other stored memories, such as the clock and radio.
