II. INSPECTION/REPAIR

Toyota will initiate this Service Campaign to correct potential starting problem in support of our commitment to product quality and consumer satisfaction.

Although the engine will start, the cranking time may take 2 to 10 seconds longer than normal. This condition will exist when the fusible link in the "glow plug" starting system is blown due to electrical shortage of the wire to the current sensor terminal. The wire may be shorted against the engine "rear lift hook" adjacent to the sensor terminal.

Please refer to the attached Technical Instructions for details.

III. PARTS AND REIMBURSEMENT

See attached Technical Instruction for part number and detailed technical information.
IV. S.S.C. SCHEDULE

The Owner Notification Letters will be mailed commencing on February 28, 1985 to all known owners as listed on your computer list. Please note that there may be some owner names NOT LISTED on your computer listing, but if the trucks are within the subject VIN range, your handling the Service Campaign is required.

V. VEHICLES IN DEALER STOCK

If the above subject trucks in your new car inventory are within the above VIN range, please complete the necessary Service Campaign before retailing the vehicle.

VI. REVIEW INFORMATION

Please ensure that all Service and Customer Relations staff are completely familiar with this service Campaign and the technicians are advised of the "Technical Instruction".

Your continued cooperation and assistance is appreciated.

Dear Toyota Owner:

Toyota has discovered that certain 1985 Turbo Diesel Trucks sold in California may have a starting problem under cold weather conditions. Our records indicate that you have purchased one of the possibly affected trucks.

Although the engine will start, the cranking time may take few seconds longer than normal. Should this condition exist, the fusible link in the glow plug starting system may have opened due to an electrical circuit malfunction.

To prevent the possibility of this condition from occurring, please contact your Toyota Dealer and make arrangements to have the Truck inspected. The inspection and repair work will be at no cost to you. The actual labor time for this inspection and repair, if necessary, will take approximately 20 minutes.

All Toyota Dealers are provided with detailed instructions for this Service Campaign and are ready to perform this service.

Toyota is taking this action as part of our ongoing program to maintain owner confidence and satisfaction in our vehicles. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this may cause you.
