EGR System Inspection

1986 1C-TL & 2C-T ENGINES

1. Connect vacuum gauge in line between EGR valve and vacuum damper using a suitable fitting.
2. Start engine and ensure engine operates properly at idle. If engine operates rough or stalls, check for improperly seated EGR valve.
3. With coolant temperature below 122°F, run engine at 2300 RPM and observe vacuum gauge. If gauge reading is not zero, BVSV is defective.
4. Warm engine to normal operating temperature and observe gauge reading at idle. Gauge reading should be more than 1.97 inch Hg.
5. Gradually increase engine speed to 2300 RPM and ensure gauge reading is more than 11.02 inches Hg.
6. Gradually increase engine speed to 3500 RPM and ensure gauge reading is less than 1.97 inch Hg.
7. If system does not operate as specified, test system components individually until fault is found.
