Second Brake

DISASSEMBLY OF SECOND BRAKE



1. REMOVE SECOND BRAKE ASSEMBLY FROM OUTPUT SHAFT




2. REMOVE THRUST WASHER




3. COMPRESS PISTON RETURN SPRING AND REMOVE SNAP RING
a. Place SST on the spring retainer, and compress the return spring with a shop press.
SST 09350 - 30020 (09350 - 07040)
b. Remove the snap ring with snap ring pliers.

4. REMOVE SPRING RETAINER




5. REMOVE PISTON RETURN SPRING




6. REMOVE SECOND BRAKE PISTON
a. Hold the second brake piston by hand, apply compressed air to the second brake drum to remove the second brake piston.
b. Remove the second brake piston.

7. REMOVE THE TWO O-RINGS FROM SECOND BRAKE PISTON


ASSEMBLY OF SECOND BRAKE



1. INSTALL NEW O-RINGS TO SECOND BRAKE PISTON
Coat new O-rings with ATF and install them on the second brake piston.

2. INSTALL SECOND BRAKE PISTON
Being careful not to damage the O-rings, press in the second brake piston into the second brake drum.




3. INSTALL PISTON RETURN SPRING
4. INSTALL SPRING RETAINER




5. COMPRESS PISTON RETURN SPRING AND INSTALL SNAP RING IN GROOVE
a. Place SST on the spring-retainer, and compress the return spring with a shop press.
SST 09350 - 30020 (09350 - 07040)
b. Install the snap ring with snap ring pliers. Be sure the end gap of the snap ring is not aligned with the spring retainer claw.




6. CHECK SECOND BRAKE PISTON MOVING
Make sure the second brake piston moves smoothly when applying and releasing the low compressed air to the second brake drum.




7. INSTALL THRUST WASHER
Coat the thrust washer with petroleum jelly and install it.

NOTE: Make sure that the cutout portions of thrust washers match teeth of the spring retainer.




8. INSTALL SECOND BRAKE ASSEMBLY TO OUTPUT SHAFT
