Ignition Timing: Adjustments

1. Remove RH seat and engine service hole cover.
2. Connect a timing light to the engine.






3. Using a service wire, short the terminals of the check engine connector as shown.
4. Check ignition timing, should be 12° BTDC at idle. Adjust as necessary.






5. Loosen the mount bolt of the IIA and adjust by turning the IIA until the timing mark reads 12° BTDC as shown.
6. Tighten the mount bolt and make sure timing is still at spec. Torque to 18 Nm (13 ft.lbs).






7. Remove the service wire and install the connector cap.






8. Ignition timing should now be 20° BTDC.
9. Remove timing light.
10. Install engine service hole cover and RH seat.
