Inspection

SHAFT SEAL

1. Check lapping surface of carbon disc for cracks or scratches and replace as necessary.
2. Check rubber seal for cracking or hardening and replace as necessary.
3. Check spring action and replace spring as necessary.

SEAL PLATE

Check sealing surfaces for scratches or corrosion and replace as necessary.

VALVE PLATE

Check both surfaces for corrosion and polish or replace as necessary.

DISCHARGE REED VALVE

1. Check reed for cracking, scratching, deformation, or corrosion and replace as necessary.
2. Check restrainer for deformation or corrosion and replace as necessary.

SUCTION REED VALVE

Check reed for cracking, scratching, deformation, or corrosion, and replace as necessary.

FRONT & REAR HOUSINGS

Check sealing surfaces for cracking, scratching, or deformation and replace as necessary.

CYLINDER BLOCK

1. Check cylinder bore for scratching or corrosion and replace as necessary.
2. Check piston clearance as follows. If clearance is not within specifications, replace cylinder or piston as necessary:
a. Measure each cylinder bore with telescoping gauge and outside micrometer.
b. Measure each piston with outside micrometer.
c. The difference of these two measurements should be between .0010 and .0014 inch.
3. Check radial bearings for poor contact, worn needle, scoring, or pitting and replace cylinder as necessary.
4. Check mating surfaces between front and rear cylinder blocks for cracking or scratching and replace as necessary.

THRUST BEARING

Check races and rollers for pitting, scoring, or flaking and replace as necessary.

DISCHARGE & SUCTION SERVICE VALVES

1. Check flare portion for scratches or deformation and replace as necessary.
2. Check groove for scratches and O-ring for cracks and replace as necessary.
3. Check Schrader valve for gas leakage and replace as necessary.

SHAFT

1. Check surface of swash plate for scoring, wear, or signs of uneven shoe contact and repair or replace as necessary.
2. Check shaft for wear or deformation and repair or replace as necessary.

PISTON

1. Check machined surface for scratches or scoring and replace as necessary.
2. Check piston clearance as described under ``Cylinder Block'' and replace piston or cylinder as necessary.

SHOE & BALL

1. Check shoe for wearing or cracking and replace as necessary.
2. Check ball for flaking or wear and replace as necessary. When shaft, pistons, shoes, and/or balls are replaced, adjustment of shoe clearance should be performed as described below.
