Ignition Timing: Adjustments
1. Connect a timing light to engine and disconnect and plug the vacuum hose to the distributor as shown.
2. Start the engine and let it idle.
Idle should be no more than 950 rpm, adjust as necessary.
3. Slowly turn the distributor until the timing mark indicates 5° BTDC.
4. Tighten the lockdown bolt and ensure that timing is still within spec.
Torque to 13 Nm (9 ft.lbs).
5. You can further check ignition timing as follows.
6. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the distributor.
7. Check that timing advances to approx. 13° BTDC at 950 rpm.
