Disassembly and Reassembly
DISASSEMBLY:Distributor, Exploded View:
1. Remove the screw and ground strap.
Vacuum Advance Removal And Installation:
2. Remove the vacuum advance retaining screws and E clip. Remove the vacuum advance unit from the distributor.
Breaker Plate Removal And Installation:
3. Remove stationary plate retaining screws, and pull out the stationary plate and pick-up coil.
Governor Spring Removal And Installation:
4. Remove centrifugal weight springs.
Signal Rotor Removal:
5. Remove the grease stopper from the end of the governor shaft. Remove the screw from the end of the shaft and remove the signal rotor.
Governor Weight Removal And Installation:
6. Using a screwdriver, remove the E clips and pull off the centrifugal weights.
INSPECTION:
Breaker Plate Inspection:
1. Hold the breaker plate in one hand while turning the inner plate. The plate should have a slight drag. If strong resistance or sticking is felt, replace the breaker plate.
Governor Shaft Bearing Inspection:
2. Turn the governor shaft and ensure the bearing is not rough or worn. If necessary replace the distributor assembly.
Signal Rotor Inspection:
3. Temporarily install the signal rotor. Check the signal rotor for damage and correct fit on the distributor shaft.
ASSEMBLY:
Distributor O-ring Replacement:
1. Lightly coat a new O-ring with engine oil and install it on distributor housing.
Governor Weight Removal And Installation:
2. Using a screw driver, install the centrifugal weights and E clips.
3. Install the signal rotor on the governor shaft with the cutout part positioned at the right side of the governor shaft stopper pin.
4. Install the signal rotor retaining screw to end of governor shaft. Apply grease to the end of the governor shaft and push the grease stopper on with your finger.
Governor Spring Removal And Installation:
5. Install the centrifugal weight springs.
Breaker Plate Removal And Installation:
6. Fit the four clips on the breaker plate into the housing slots. Install the two hold down clips with the two retaining screws.
Vacuum Advance Removal And Installation:
7. Insert the vacuum advance diaphragm, with gasket, into the distributor and place the lever hole over the plate pin.
8. Install the E ring on the pin.
9. Install and tighten the vacuum advance diaphragm retaining screw.
10. Install distributor. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.
11. Reconnect vacuum lines. Torque distributor hold down bolt.
Torque Value: 13 ftlb (18 Nm)
12. Adjust ignition timing. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.
