Deceleration Sensor Operation Diagnosis System

While checking the DSODS, the ABS does not work and the brakes function as a standard brake system.
1. Remove rubber caps from Ts connector, then connect terminals. Set parking brake, then press brake pedal and start engine. Ensure warning light blinks about once every second. If warning light does not blink, inspect parking brake switch, Ts connector, decelerate sensor installation and computer.
2. Inspect sensor detection point as follows:
a. Block front wheels, then slowly raise rear of vehicle. Measure the height at center of lower body. Height should be 33.5 inches on Celica and 1990-91 Pickup and 4Runner models and 27.6 inches. Height should be 29.5 inches on Previa models. Ensure warning light is not on. If warning light turns on, inspect deceleration sensor installation. If sensor installation is satisfactory, replace deceleration sensor.
b. Lower vehicle and ensure warning light is blinking.
c. Block front wheels, then slowly raise up front of vehicle and measure vehicle height from center of lower body or spoiler edge of vehicle. Height should be 25.6 inches on Camry, Pickup and 4Runner models with spoiler and 26.8 inches on Camry, Pickup and 4Runner models less spoiler. On 1989-91 Celica models, height should be 23.6 inches. On 1992 Celica models, height should be 22.4 inches. On Previa models, height should be 23.23 inches. Ensure warning light is not on. If warning light is on, inspect deceleration sensor installation, if sensor installation is satisfactory, replace deceleration sensor.
d. Lower vehicle and ensure warning light is blinking.

3. Inspect sensor operation as follows:
a. Drive vehicle straight ahead on a level surface at a speed above seven mph, then lightly press brake pedal, bringing vehicle to a stop. Ensure there is no change in warning light pattern, Fig. 61.
b. Drive vehicle straight ahead on a level surface at 13 mph or more, then moderately press brake pedal, bringing vehicle to a stop. Ensure warning light turns on while braking.
c. Drive vehicle straight ahead on a level surface at 13 mph or more, then strongly press brake pedal, bringing vehicle to a stop. Ensure warning light pattern changes after braking. Fig. 62.
d. If any of described operations are not as specified, inspect deceleration sensor installation. If sensor installation is satisfactory, replace deceleration sensor.
e. After DSODS inspection and repairs. Ensure ignition is off, then remove terminal wire from Ts connector and install rubber cap.
