Distributor: Service and Repair

Distributor, Exploded View:

REMOVAL:

1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.

2. Disconnect the air flow meter connector.

3. Disconnect air hoses.

4. Disconnect the air cleaner cover clips.

Air Cleaner Removal:

5. Remove air cleaner cover, air flow meter, and air cleaner hose as an assembly.

6. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the distributor cap.

7. Disconnect the primary wire connector from the distributor.

Distributor Bolt Removal:

8. Remove the two hold down bolts and remove the distributor.

INSTALLATION:

Camshaft Alignment:

1. Rotate the crankshaft clockwise, ensure #1 cylinder is at TDC, compression stroke. Position the slit of the intake camshaft.

O-ring Installation:

2. Install a new O-ring to the distributor housing and apply a light coat of engine oil.

Distributor Alignment Marks:

3. Align the cutout of the coupling with the line of the housing.

Distributor Installation:

4. Install the distributor and lightly tighten hold down bolts.

5. Connect the spark plug wires to the proper terminals on the distributor cap.

Firing Order: 1 2 3 4 5 6

6. Reconnect the primary wire connector to the distributor.

7. Install the air flow meter, air hoses, and air cleaner cover, securing all fasteners.

8. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.

9. To adjust ignition timing refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES.

10. Torque distributor hold down bolts.

Torque Value: 13 ft.lb (18 Nm)
