Engine Control Module: Testing and Inspection

INSPECTION

HINT: If, after Performing circuit and individual component tests, it is determined that problem(s) may exist in the Engine Control Module, It will be necessary to substitute the engine control module with a known good engine control module and retest as needed.
The SFI circuit can be checked by measuring the resistance and voltage at the wiring connectors of the engine control module.

1. Remove glove compartment door.
2. Preparation.

- Disconnect the 4 connectors from the engine control module.
- Carefully remove the locks so that the tester probe(s) can easily come in.

NOTE: Pay attention to sections A and B in the illustration which can easily broken.

- Reconnect the 4 connectors to the engine control module.

3. Inspect voltage of engine control module.

- Turn the ignition switch ON.

- Measure the voltage between each terminal of the wiring connectors.

HINT: Perform all voltage measurements with the connectors connected. Verify that the battery voltage is 11 volts or more when the ignition switch is ON.

4. Inspect resistance of engine control module.

- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK.
- Disconnect the 4 connectors from the engine control module.

- Measure the resistance between each terminal of the wiring connectors.

NOTE: Do not touch the engine control module terminals. The tester probe should be inserted in the wiring connector from the wiring side.
