1. On models with audio coded anti-theft system, disable system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. Disable airbag system as described under Technician Safety Information.
2. Remove hood, hood side panels and undercovers.
3. Drain engine coolant, engine oil and transaxle oil.
4. Remove suspension upper brace, Fig. 1, then air cleaner assembly.
5. Disconnect accelerator cable, then remove cruise actuator and linkage, if equipped.
6. Disconnect brake booster vacuum hose and engine ground strap connector.
7. Remove check connector and vacuum sensor, then A/C VSV.
8. Remove water filler tube and charcoal canister.
9. Remove engine relay box, ignition coil and igniter. Disconnect engine wire.
10. Disconnect engine wire from luggage compartment. Then disconnect starter cable.
11. Disconnect water inlet hose, fuel inlet hose, fuel return hose and radiator hose from water outlet housing.
12. Disconnect transaxle control cables.
13. On automatic transmission, disconnect oil cooler lines.
14. Remove front exhaust pipe.
15. Remove driveshaft.
16. Remove idler pulley bracket and A/C compressor without disconnecting hoses.
17. Disconnect speedometer cable. Then remove front and rear engine mounting insulator (remove rear first).
18. On manual transmission, remove front engine mounting bracket and release cylinder.
19. On automatic transmission, disconnect transmission control cables.
20. Remove rear engine mounting bracket and righthand engine mounting stay.
21. On manual transmission, remove lefthand mounting stay. Then remove lateral control rod.
22. Remove air cleaner case bracket.
23. Attach chain and hoist to engine hangers.
24. Remove lefthand mounting insulator and brackets from transaxle. Then remove righthand mounting insulator and bracket from engine assembly.
25. Remove engine and transaxle assembly from vehicle.
26. Reverse procedure to install, refer to Specifications for torque values. Arm airbag system. If audio system was disabled, activate as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
