Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair

1. Remove front steering knuckle.
2. Clamp steering knuckle in strong vice. Tap out hub bearing cap with hammer and screwdriver.

3. Remove axle hub locknut, Fig. 1.
4. On vehicles with ABS, remove speed sensor rotor.
5. On vehicles less ABS, remove bearing inner spacer.

6. Using hub puller tool No. 09520-00031, or equivalent, remove axle hub, Fig. 2.

7. Remove snap ring, then remove bearing inner race (outside) using puller tool No. 09950-20017, or equivalent, Fig. 3.

8. Remove outer race by placing removed inner race in bearing. Then using removal tool No. 09068-30012, or equivalent, tap bearing from hub, Fig. 4.
9. Install bearing with installer tool No. 09068-30012, or equivalent. Then install snap ring.
10. Coat lip seals with suitable grease, then install inner and outer races to hub bearing.
11. Using installer tool No. 09608-30012, or equivalent, install axle hub to steering knuckle.
12. On vehicles with ABS, install speed sensor rotor.
13. On vehicles less ABS, install bearing inner spacer.
14. Install and torque axle hub locknut to 90 ft.lbs. Then stake nut.
15. Using installer tool No. 09608-30012, or equivalent, install hub grease cap.
