Removal and Installation

NOTE: With coded audio anti-theft systems, refer to Technician Safety Information for code procedures.

1. With air bag system, disarm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
2. Remove air cleaner assembly with air hose.
3. Remove level gauge and disconnect breather hose.
4. Remove throttle cable and starter.
5. Disconnect No. 1 vehicle speed pulse generator connector.
6. Remove harness wire clamp, then disconnect No. 2 vehicle speed pulse generator connector.
7. Remove engine lateral control assembly, upper transaxle mounting bolts on transaxle side and rear wheels.
8. Raise and support vehicle.
9. Remove engine undercover, then drain transaxle fluid into suitable container.
10. Remove driveshaft.
11. Remove nut from control shaft lever, disconnect clip and remove shift control cable.
12. Remove two oil cooler tubes and filler tube.
13. Disconnect Park/Neutral switch connector.
14. Remove exhaust pipe, then install engine support fixture.
15. Remove front and rear engine mountings.
16. Remove nut, bolt and suspension arm from rear axle hub.
17. Remove bolt and disconnect speed sensor bracket from rear suspension crossmember.
18. Remove four bolts, then rear suspension crossmember.
19. Remove left engine mount set bolts, stiffener plate, rear end plate and torque converter mounting bolts.
20. Remove transaxle mounting bolts from engine, then lower left side of engine and remove transaxle.
21. Reverse procedure to install. With air bag system, rearm airbag system as outlined under Technician Safety Information. If audio system was disabled, activate as outlined under Technician Safety Information.
