Flushing A/C System

Several factors, particularly compressor failure can cause contamination of the A/C system. If the A/C system is suspected of being contaminated, or if any system components have been stored in open air for extended periods, the entire system should be flushed. If contamination or moisture is minimal, the system can be flushed with nitrogen. If contamination is more extensive, the system should be flushed with R-12, or R-134a refrigerant. The receiver drier or accumulator should be replaced and a full charge of oil should be added any time the system is flushed.
