Fuel Filter: Testing and Inspection

1. Remove the Fuel Filter from the vehicle.
2. Drain excess fuel from the inlet side of the Filter into a suitable clear container.
3. Examine fuel for water, dirt and other contaminants that may have become trapped in the filter.
4. If any dirt is found, replace the fuel filter.
5. Check the fuel filter for flow by blowing through the Filter with compressed air (45 psi max.) from the inlet side and inspecting for restrictions.
6. If the fuel filter appears to have a restriction, replace the fuel filter.
7. DO NOT attempt to open the fuel filter for visual inspection.
8. Reinstall the fuel filter with new gaskets on the vehicle.
9. Start engine and ensure there are no fuel leaks at the filter fittings.

NOTE: Although Toyota does not recommend a maintenance interval for fuel filter replacement, a periodic replacement of the filter may be warranted depending on mileage driven and gas quality.
