With Toyota Hand-Held Tester
1. CHECK THE BATTERY POSITIVE VOLTAGE IS ABOVE 12.0 VOLTS.- Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery.
2. REMOVE THE UNION BOLT AND 2 GASKETS, AND DISCONNECT THE FUEL INLET HOSE FROM THE FUEL FILTER OUTLET.
CAUTION:
- Put a catch pan or shop towel under the fuel filter.
- Slowly loosen the union bolt.
3. INSTALL THE FUEL INLET HOSE AND PRESSURE GAUGE TO THE FUEL FILTER OUTLET WITH THE 3 GASKETS AND UNION BOLT.
- (SST 09268-45012 - EFI fuel pressure gauge).
Torque: 29 Nm (300 kgf.cm, 22 ft.lb)
- Wipe off any splattered gasoline.
4. CONNECT THE TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER TO THE DLC3.
5. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE TO THE BATTERY.
6. TURN THE IGNITION SWITCH ON.
7. MEASURE THE FUEL PRESSURE.
Fuel pressure: 265 - 304 kPa (38 - 44 psi)
^ If pressure is high, replace the fuel pressure regulator.
^ If pressure is low, check these parts:
- Fuel hoses and connections
- Fuel pump
- Fuel filter
- Fuel pressure regulator
8. REMOVE THE TOYOTA HAND-HELD TESTER FROM THE DLC3.
9. REINSTALL THE FUSE COVER ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL.
10. START THE ENGINE.
11. DISCONNECT THE VACUUM SENSING HOSE FROM THE FUEL PRESSURE REGULATOR, AND PLUG THE HOSE END.
12. MEASURE THE FUEL PRESSURE AT IDLE.
Fuel pressure: 265 - 304 kPa (38 - 44 psi)
13. RECONNECT THE VACUUM SENSING HOSE TO THE FUEL PRE SURE REGULATOR.
14. MEASURE THE FUEL PRESSURE AT IDLE.
Fuel pressure: 226 - 265 kPa (33 - 38 psi)
- If pressure is not as specified, check the vacuum sensing hose and fuel pressure regulator.
15. STOP THE ENGINE.
16. CHECK RESIDUAL FUEL PRESSURE.
- Check that the fuel pressure remains as specified for 5 minutes after the engine has stopped.
Fuel pressure: 147 kPa (21 psi) or more
- If pressure is not as specified, check the fuel pump, pressure regulator and/or injectors.
17. REMOVE PRESSURE GAUGE.
- Disconnect the negative (-) terminal cable from the battery and carefully remove the pressure gauge to prevent gasoline from splashing.
18. RECONNECT THE FUEL INLET HOSE WITH 2 NEW GASKETS AND THE UNION BOLT.
Torque: 29 Nm (300 kgf.cm; 21 ft.lb)
19. RECONNECT THE NEGATIVE (-) TERMINAL CABLE TO THE BATTERY.
20. CHECK FOR FUEL LEAKAGE.
Refer to "Testing For Fuel Leakage" under System Diagnosis procedures.
