IGNITION TIMING INSPECTION AND ADJUSTMENT1. BE SURE THE ENGINE AT NORMAL OPERATING TEMPERATURE, AND TRANSMISSION IS IN A NEUTRAL GEAR.
Tachometer Connector:
2. CONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT TO ENGINE.
- Connect the tester probe of a tachometer to terminal IG (-) of the DLC1.
NOTE:
^ Never allow the tachometer terminal to touch ground as it could result in damage to the igniter and/or ignition coil.
^ As some tachometers are not compatible with this ignition system, we recommend that you confirm the compatibility of your unit before use.
The Ignition Timing Check Connectors Are TE1 And E1 Of DLC1.:
3. USING A JUMPER WIRE (OR SST 09843-18020), CONNECT TERMINALS TE1 AND E1 OF THE DLC1.
4. USING A TIMING LIGHT, CHECK THE IGNITION TIMING.
Ignition timing @ idle: 10 BTDC
Distributor Hold Down Bolts:
5. IF NECESSARY, ADJUST BY LOOSENING THE 2 HOLD-DOWN BOLTS AND TURNING THE IIA (DISTRIBUTOR).
6. TIGHTEN THE BOLTS AND RECHECK THE IGNITION TIMING.
Torque: 20 Nm (15 ft.lb)
7. REMOVE THE JUMPER FROM THE DLC1 AND DISCONNECT TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT FROM ENGINE.
8. RE-CHECK IGNITION TIMING.
Ignition timing @ idle: 5° - 15° BTDC
- The timing mark should move in a range between 5° and 15°.
9. DISCONNECT THE TACHOMETER AND TIMING LIGHT FROM THE ENGINE.
