Oil Pump Service/Inspection
Fig. 8 Exploded View Of Oil Pump:
INSPECTION
1. To disassemble pump, remove oil pump drive spline and O-ring, then remove relief valve plug, spring, relief valve piston and gears, Fig. 149.
2. Inspect drive spline, drive and driven gears, pump body and timing chain cover for excessive wear or damage.

3. Measure driven gear to body clearance, Fig. 138.
Maximum clearance is .008 inch (.2 mm).

4. Measure clearances between drive gear and crescent and driven gear and crescent, Fig. 136.
Maximum clearance is .012 inch.

5. Measure side clearance using a straightedge placed across the housing and gears and using a feeler gauge, Fig. 137.
Measured clearance is .006 inch (.15 mm).
6. Check relief valve piston, oil passages and sliding surfaces for burrs or scoring.
7. Inspect crankshaft front oil seal and oil pump o-ring. Replace as necessary.
