Title: '96 4RUNNER HOOD PROTECTOR WHISTLING NOISE CONCERN

There is a potential whistling noise on 1996 4Runners with hood protectors (P/N 00500-89960) which is caused by the size of the front air slots on the hood protector. To eliminate this whistling noise, hood protectors manufactured after March 12, 1996 have been modified.





NOTE:
The manufacturing date code can be found on the part number label on the underside of the hood protector.

REPAIR PROCEDURES:





To verify the exact cause of the whistling noise on the 1996 4Runner with hood protectors, cover the front air slots with masking tape and test drive the vehicle at highway speeds.

If the whistling noise is still present, check for other possible causes of noise.

If the whistling noise is eliminated, replace the current hood protector with a new part, manufactured after March 12, 1996. Please use the normal warranty claim procedures.
