Alignment: Service and Repair
WHEEL ALIGNMENT1. Measure the vehicle height by checking the vehicles clearance.
^ A (Follow spring clearance): 36 mm (1.42 inch).
^ B (Bumper stopper clearance): 104 mm (4.09 inch). If the clearance of the vehicle is not standard, try to level the vehicle by rocking it down. If still not correct, check for bad springs or suspension parts.
2. Install the camber-caster-kingpin gauge onto the wheel alignment tester and follow the specific instructions of the equipment manufacturer.
3. Inspect the camber, caster and the steering axis inclination. The camber, caster and steering axis inclination are not adjustable. If measurements are not within the specification, inspect the suspension parts for damaged and/or worn out parts and replace them as necessary.
Camber
^ Standard: 1° ± 45'(1° ± 0.75°).
^ Left-Right Error: 45' (0.75°) or less.
Caster
^ Standard: 3° ± 60' (3° ± 1°).
^ Left-Right Error: 45' (0.75°) or less.
Steering Axis Inclination: 13° ± 45' (13° ± 0.75°).
Measuring Point Reference:
4. Inspect the toe-in. The toe-in total should measure as follows.
^ A+B: 0°12' ± 12' (-0.2° to + 0.2°).
^ C-D: -2mm to +2mm (-0.03 inch to +0.08 inch)
NOTE: If toe-in is not within the specification, adjust by the tie rod end.
5. Adjust the toe-in by performing the following.
a. loosen the clamp bolts and nuts.
b. Adjust the toe-in to the correct value by turning the tie rod.
NOTE: Make sure that the lengths of the left and right tie rod ends are the same.
c. Tighten the clamp bolts and nuts to 37 Nm (27 ft. lbs.).
NOTE: The clamps opening must be positioned at the rear of the tie rod and face within 60° ± 10° (-.833° to +1.16°) from the vehicle axis.
6. Inspect the wheel angle by performing the following.
a. Remove the caps of the knuckle stopper bolts and check the steering angles.
b. Turn the steering wheel fully, and measure the turning angle. The angles should measure as follows.
^ Inside Wheel: 32° to 35°.
^ Outside Wheel: 31° (For Reference).
NOTE: When the steering wheel is fully turned, make sure that the wheel is not touching the body or brake flexible hose.If maximum steering angles differ from the standard value, adjust the wheel angle with the knuckle stopper bolts. Tighten the bolts to 44 Nm (33 ft. lbs.). If the wheel angle still cannot be adjusted within limits, inspect and replace damaged or worn steering parts.
