Fluid Level Check

FLUID LEVEL CHECK
1. While keeping the vehicle level,check the fluid level by stopping the engine and checking the fluid level in the oil reservoir. If necessary, add the ATF DEXRON II or III fluid.





NOTE: Check that the fluid level is within the HOT LEVEL range on the reservoir cap dipstick. If the fluid is cold, check that it is within the COLD LEVEL range.





2. Boost the fluid temperature by first starting the engine and running it at idle then, turning the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to boost fluid temperature to 80°C (176°F).
3. Check for foaming or emulsification and, if there is foaming or emulsification, bleed power steering system.





4. Check the fluid level rise by performing the following.
a. With the engine idling, measure the fluid level in the oil reservoir then stop the engine.
b. Wait a few minutes and remeasure the fluid level in the reservoir. The fluid level rise should not be more than a maximum 5 mm (0.2 inch). If a problem is found, bleed power steering system.
5. Check the fluid level.
