Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection

THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC) INSPECTION

Exhaust pipe assembly inspection.
1. Check connection for looseness or damage.
2. Check clamps for weakness, cracks or damage.

TWC inspection
1. Check for dents or damage.
If any part of the protector is damaged or dented to the extent that it touches the TWC, repair or replace it.

Heat insulator inspection.
1. Check heat insulator for damage.
2. Check for adequate clearance between TWC and heat insulator.

NOTICE: Excessive heat can bulge or distort the converter. Since excessive heat build up is not the fault of the converter, the fuel or ignition system should be checked whenever a converter is damaged by overheating.
