Repair Procedure (Koito)
1. Disassembly (all):NOTE:
For special steps on Corolla see information shown in this bulletin.
A. Using a plastic clip removal tool and a # 2 Phillips screwdriver as appropriate, carefully remove all plastic dips and plugs, then carefully remove the trunk lid carpet trim panel (if applicable).
NOTE:
Save all plastic clips for reinstallation.
B. Disconnect the Spoiler Light wire harness from the main wire harness.
C. Using a 4' length of 1/8" nylon cord, attach one end of The cord to the black (spoiler side) of connector B. Use black electrical tape to securely fasten and direct the cord to the tip of the connector (this cord will be used to route the new harness back through the spoiler and trunk lid).
D. Tape a protective cloth to the trunk lid below the Spoiler Light.
E. Using a right angle Phillips screwdriver, remove the (4) Spoiler Light cover screws.*
*NOTE:
These screws are retained & reinstalled.
F. Using a plastic trim removal tool, carefully remove The Spoiler Light cover and remove the (3) Spoiler Light retaining screws.

These screws are retained & reinstalled.
G. With one hand remove the Spoiler Light from the spoiler then firmly pull the harness and direct connector B back through the trunk lid with your other hand.
NOTE:
Be careful that you don't pull the nylon cord all the way through the spoiler.
H. Completely remove Spoiler Light with attached sub-harness from spoiler.
2. Reassembly for Camry & Tercel:
A. Unfasten the nylon cord from the Spoiler Light sub-harness and fasten it to the replacement sub-harness.
NOTE:
Be sure to fasten the cord so that it will pull from the very end of the new sub-harness connector.
B. Apply a small amount of 3M Auto Body Sealant (or equivalent) to the mounting surface of the rubber grommet as shown in the illustration.
C. Gently feed the new sub-harness through the spoiler by pulling the nylon cord with one hand and feeding it with the other. Fish the sub-harness from the spoiler out of the trunk lid. Firmly but gently pull the harness so that the grommet seals properly against the deck lid inside the spoiler.
D. Remove the tape and cord.
E. Reconnect Spoiler Light Harness to the new sub-harness.
F. Place the new Spoiler Light into the recess in the spoiler and fasten with (3) screws (F*).
G. Replace (1) 250 mm adhesive strip across surface of the Spoiler Light.
H. Replace (2) 20 mm adhesive strips on spoiler surface.
I. Remove release liners from adhesive strips. Carefully replace Spoiler Light cover. Apply pressure starting at center of cover and press outward.
J. Reinstall (4) Spoiler Light cover retaining screws (J*).
3. Special Procedure notes for Corolla:
A. For Corolla, repairs are possible only by completely removing The spoiler from the vehicle to replace the Spoiler Light:
B. Use fishing line or monofilament remove tape from stanchions by sliding in a back and forth motion between the stanchion and the trunk lid.
C. Remove nuts on bottom side of trunk lid and firmly pull off spoiler.
NOTE:
Take care not to dent the trunk lid when removing spoiler.
D. When reinstalling the spoiler, use the 2 adhesive pads provided in the kit.
a. Clean the trunk lid spoiler mounting area and then attach the new adhesive pads to the spoiler.
b. Remove the protective tape and mount spoiler to trunk lid surface.
c. Follow the standard Corolla Spoiler Installation instructions.
4. Final Checks:
A. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
B. Enter Anti-theft code and verify proper operation of radio.
C. Verify that the Spoiler Light works properly.
D. Verify that the Lamp Failure Warning Indicator is not illuminated (if applicable).
E. Reinstall all remaining trim parts.
