AIRBAG DEACTIVATION (SUPPLEMENT) REVISED

THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS TSB SUPERSEDES TSB NO. 0705 DATED DECEMBER 22, 1998. THE PREVIOUS TSB SHOULD BE DISCARDED.

This Technical Service Bulletin provides you with the installation instructions for the Airbag Cut Off switches, Off Indicator and Wiring Harnesses necessary for the Airbag Deactivation procedure adopted by Transport Canada. These instructions include the installation procedure requirements for the following conditions :

1. Airbag Cut Off Switch Kit (for driver side and passenger side)
2. Airbag Cut Off Switch Kit (for driver side only)
3. Airbag Cut Off Switch Kit (for passenger side only)

NOTE:
Be sure to explain the method of operation of the airbag deactivation system and also provide your customer with a copy of the owner's manual supplement.

NOTE: Airbag Cut-Off Switches are ON / OFF Switches.

NOTE :
Power for the Airbag Deactivation System on 2000 model year Camry is supplied by connecting a sub-wire harness to the clock. The connectors on the sub-wire harness and clock are different for Auto and Manual type air conditioning systems, which resulted in different switch kits having to be used. Verify which type air condition system the vehicle has before ordering the correct switch kit part number.

PREPARATION

CAUTION:
Work must be started more than 90 seconds after the ignition switch is turned to the "LOCK" position and the negative (-) terminal cable is disconnected from the battery. (The SRS is equipped with a back-up power source. If work is started within 90 seconds from disconnecting the negative (-) terminal cable of the battery, the SRS may be deployed.)

HINT :
For details about removal of each part, refer to the Repair Manual.

1. REMOVE COLUMN LOWER COVER
While turning the steering wheel right / left, remove the 3 screws and column lower cover.

2. REMOVE NO. 1 LOWER PANEL

(a) Remove the front door inside scuff plate LH.
(b) Remove the cowl side trim LH.
(c) Remove the lower finish plate.
(d) Remove the 2 screws and hood lock release lever.
(e) Remove the screw, bolt and No. 1 lower panel.

3. REMOVE LOWER PANEL INSERT

(a) Remove the 2 screws while pushing the DLC3 to the LH lower panel.
(b) Remove the 4 bolts and panel.

4. DISCONNECT FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG CONNECTOR

(a) Pry out the glove compartment door finish plate.
(b) Remove the airbag connector from the glove compartment door finish plate.
(c) Disconnect the airbag connector.

NOTICE :
When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness and connector.

5. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove the front door inside scuff plate RH.
(b) Remove the cowl side trim RH.
(c) Remove the No. 2 lower panel.
(d) Remove the 4 screws, bolt and glove compartment assembly.

6. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
7. REMOVE RADIO ASSEMBLY
8. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL












9. REMOVE COMBINATION METER
