Passengers Airbag Assembly


REMOVAL

NOTE:
- If the wiring connector of the SRS is disconnected and the ignition switch is in ON or ACC position, DTCs will be recorded.
- Never use the airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.









1. DISCONNECT AIRBAG CONNECTOR
a. Using a screwdriver, pry out the glove compartment door finish plate inside the lower panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

b. Remove the connector from the glove compartment door finish plate.
c. Disconnect the airbag connector.

NOTE: When disconnecting the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.

2. REMOVE LOWER PANEL
a. Remove the front door scuff plate RH and cowl side trim RH.
b. Remove the front door opening trim cover RH.
c. Remove the No.2 under cover.
d. Remove the bolt, 4 screws and lower panel.

3. REMOVE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY






a. Remove the thermistor connector clamp.






b. Remove the 2 nuts for connecting the front passenger airbag assembly to the instrument panel.
c. Remove the 2 bolts for mounting the front passenger airbag assembly.
d. Remove the 2 bolts and No.1 airbag passenger mount bracket.






e. Remove the airbag straps, as shown in the illustration.
1. Remove the nut and airbag strap on the outer side
2. Slide the front passenger airbag assembly to the outer side of the vehicle.
3. Remove the nut and airbag strap on the inner side.

f. Remove the front passenger airbag assembly from the instrument panel.

CAUTION:
- Do not store the front passenger airbag assembly with the airbag deployment side facing down.
- Never disassemble the front passenger airbag assembly.

NOTE: When removing the front passenger airbag assembly, take care not to damage the wire harness.


INSTALLATION

NOTE: Never use airbag parts from another vehicle. When replacing parts, replace them with new parts.

1. INSTALL FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG ASSEMBLY
a. Temporarily install the front passenger airbag assembly.






b. Install the airbag straps, as shown in the illustration.
1. Install the nut and airbag strap on the inner side.
2. Slide the front passenger airbag assembly to the inner side of the vehicle.
3. Install the nut and airbag strap on the outer side.






c. Install the No.1 airbag passenger mount bracket with the 2 bolts.

Torque: 20 Nm (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

d. Install the 2 bolts for mounting the front passenger airbag assembly.

Torque: 20 Nm (205 kgf.cm, 15 ft.lbf)

e. Install the 2 nuts for connecting the front passenger airbag assembly to the instrument panel.

Torque: 4.8 Nm (49 kgf.cm, 42 in.lbf)

CAUTION:
- Make sure that no foreign objects are trapped between the airbag, and within the module.
- Do not damage the strap when installing the module.

NOTE: If the front passenger airbag assembly has been dropped, or there are cracks, dents or other defects in the case or connector, replace the front passenger airbag assembly with a new one.

2. INSTALL LOWER PANEL
a. Install the lower panel then install the bolt and 4 screws.
b. Install the No.2 under cover.
c. Install the front door opening trim cover RH.
d. Install the cowl side trim RH and front door scuff plate RH.






3. CONNECT AIRBAG CONNECTOR
a. Connect the airbag connector.
b. Set the connector on the glove compartment door finish plate.
c. Install the glove compartment door finish plate to the lower panel.
