REMOVAL
1. REMOVE REAR WHEEL
2. w/ Disc brake: REMOVE BRAKE CALIPER AND DISC
a. Remove the brake caliper and disc.
b. Support the brake caliper securely.
3. w/ Drum brake: REMOVE BRAKE DRUM
4. CHECK BEARING BACKLASH AND AXLE HUB DEVIATION
a. Using a dial indicator, check the backlash near the center of the axle hub.
Maximum: 0.05 mm (0.0020 inch)
If the backlash exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
b. Using a dial indicator, check the deviation at the surface of the axle hub outside the hub bolt.
Maximum: 0.07 mm (0.0028 inch)
If the deviation exceeds the maximum, replace the axle hub.
5. DISCONNECT ABS SPEED SENSOR
Remove the bolt and disconnect the ABS speed sensor.
6. REMOVE REAR AXLE HUB
a. Remove the 4 bolts, axle hub and 0-ring.
b. w/ Drum brake:
Remove the bolt, and disconnect the flexible hose from the shock absorber.
c. Support the backing plate securely.
7. REMOVE REAR AXLE CARRIER
a. Remove the bolt and nut, and disconnect the strut rod from the axle carrier.
NOTICE: Loosen the bolt since the nut cannot be rotated.
b. Remove the nut, washer and bolt, and disconnect the No. 1 and No. 2 lower suspension arm.
c. Remove the 2 nuts, bolts and axle carrier.
INSTALLATION
1. INSTALL REAR AXLE CARRIER
a. Install the axle carrier, 2 bolts and nuts.
Torque:
Reused nut: 196 Nm (2,000 kgf-cm, 145 ft. lbs.)
New nut: 255 Nm (2,600 kgf-cm, 188 ft. lbs.)
HINT: If reusing the 2 nuts, coat the threads of the 2 nuts with engine oil.
b. Install the bolt, washer and nut, and connect the No. 1 and No. 2 lower suspension arm.
Torque: 181 Nm (1,850 kgf-cm, 134 ft. lbs.)
HINT: After stabilizing the suspension, torque the nut.
c. Install the bolt and nut, and connect the strut rod to the axle carrier.
Torque: 113 Nm (1,150 kgf-cm, 83 ft. lbs.)
NOTICE: Torque the bolt since the nut cannot be rotated.
2. INSTALL REAR AXLE HUB
a. Coat a new 0-ring with MP grease.
b. w/ Drum Brake:
Install the flexible hose to the shock absorber with the bolt.
Torque: 29 Nm (300 kgf-cm, 22 ft. lbs.)
c. Install the backing plate 0-ring, axle hub and 4 bolts.
Torque: 80 Nm (820 kgf-cm, 59 ft. lbs.)
3. INSTALL ABS SPEED SENSOR
Torque: 8.0 Nm (82 kgf-cm, 71 inch lbs.)
4. CHECK BEARING BACKLASH AND AXLE HUB DEVIATION
5. w/ Drum brake: INSTALL BRAKE DRUM
6. w/ Disc brake: INSTALL DISC AND BRAKE CALIPER
Torque: 47 Nm (475 kgf-cm, 34 ft. lbs.)
7. INSTALL REAR WHEEL
Torque: 103 Nm (1,050 kgf-cm, 76 ft. lbs.)
8. w/ Disc brake: DEPRESS BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES
9. CHECK REAR WHEEL ALIGNMENT
10. CHECK ABS SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL
