Catalytic Converter: Testing and Inspection

THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER (TWC) SYSTEM

INSPECTION

1. INSPECT EXHAUST PIPE ASSEMBLY
a. Check the exhaust pipe connections for looseness or damage.
b. Check clamps for weakness, cracks or damage.

2. INSPECT THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER
Check the converter for dents or damage.
If any part of the protector is damaged or dented to the extent that it touches the converter, repair or replace front exhaust pipe with three-way catalytic converter.

3. INSPECT HEAT INSULATOR
a. Check the heat insulator for damage.
b. Check for the adequate clearance between TWC and heat insulator.




4. IF NECESSARY, REPLACE FRONT EXHAUST PIPE WITH THREE-WAY CATALYTIC CONVERTER
a. Jack up the vehicle.
b. Check that the converter is cool.
c. Remove the bolts and nuts at the front pipe.
d. Remove the converter and gasket.
e. Place new gaskets on the front pipe.
f. Install and torque the bolt and nuts.

Torque: 48 Nm (490 kg.cm, 35 ft.lb)
