Trunk - Opens By Itself

TRUNK RELEASE SENSITIVITY

Introduction

Some owners of 2000 or 2001 model year Avalon vehicles may complain that the trunk opens "by itself" when they are exiting the vehicle, or of trunk wireless or dash release buttons being too sensitive. In an attempt to reduce the possibility of accidental opening of the trunk, an updated Wireless Transmitter and dash mounted Luggage Door Release Switch are now available.





Applicable Vehicles
^ 2000 - 2001 model year Avalon vehicles.





Parts Information

Repair Procedure No. 1
A. Carefully remove the Instrument Panel Register Assembly No. 1.

B. Remove and replace the dash mounted Luggage Door Release Switch.

C. Verify proper operation.

Repair Procedure No. 2

A. Confirm vehicle VIN is applicable to Procedure No. 2.

B. Replace and program 2 new Wireless Transmitters, per the 2002 Avalon Repair No. 2 Manual, Volume 2, page BE-99.

C. Verify proper operation.





Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Comprehensive Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.
