Subject:
POPPING NOISE FROM CONVERTIBLE TOP

Adjustments can be made on the 2000 model year Solara Convertible to eliminate a popping noise caused by the back glass contacting the bootwell retainer when opening the convertible top.

APPLICABLE VEHICLE:
2000 model year Solara Convertible.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

This repair procedure adjusts the No. 4 bow of the convertible top assembly to add more pull to the top of the rear window.

1. Unlatch the top and open the top until you can place a block of wood between the top and header (this provides slack in the top material).

2. Remove screw attaching the headliner just below the rear window (shown in illustration) to gain access to the No. 4 bow attachment point.

3. With the headliner pulled back, the No. 4 bow attachment point is accessible. The No. 4 bow is the bow just above the rear window. Loosen the Torx bolts securing the bow and push the bow upward. Only a small amount of movement is necessary (about 3-5 mm).

NOTE:
Loosen and adjust one side at a time.

4. Retighten and reassemble all the components and test to confirm closing effort, that the appearance is acceptable, and that the popping noise has been eliminated.
