POWER SLIDING DOOR DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE (REVISED)
THE INFORMATION CONTAINED IN THIS TSB SUPERSEDES TSB NO.0792 DATED MARCH 10TH, 200. THE PREVIOUS TSB SHOULD BE DISCARDED.
Introduction:
If the Sienna power sliding door becomes inoperative, intermittently inoperative, does not close properly, or returns to the open position while being closed using the power switch or remote control, follow the diagnostic procedure outlined in this bulletin.
Since the 2000~2002 model year Repair Manual contains significant changes in diagnostic and repair procedures (compared to the 1999 Repair Manual) it is recommended that only the 2000~2002 model year Repair Manual be consulted when making repairs to the Power Sliding Door Assembly. Additionally, if the power portion of the door becomes inoperative, the door may be manually operated only if the main power switch (located on the left side of the steering column) is switched "OFF". THE POWER DRIVE ASSEMBLY MAY BE DAMAGED INTERNALLY if manual door operation is attempted when the main power switch is in the "ON" position.
NOTE:
For additional diagnostic information, please refer to Technical Service Bulletin 1022 dated October 29, 2001.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES:
1999 - 2002 model year Sienna with Right Side Power Sliding Door.

Diagnostic Procedure
1. Confirm proper tension of the power drive cables. Adjustment may be necessary if the cables are visibly loose. Refer to Technical Service Bulletin BC-00-006 "Power Sliding Door Cable Adjustment Procedure (Revised)" dated October 25, 2000
2. Confirm that the system has been initialized properly.
NOTE:
If the 12V battery is disconnected or power to the sliding door system is cut, the power sliding door control system must be re-initialized. The re-initialization process must be done carefully and completely or the door may not operate properly.
RE-INITIALIZATION PROCESS (FOR VEHICLES WITH ONE SLIDING DOOR)
A. The Main Power Switch (located on the left side of the steering column) MUST be in the "OFF" position (red line not showing on the switch button).
B. Place the transmission selector in "Park"
C. Make sure the right side sliding door is fully closed (manual operation).
D. Disconnect the 12V negative battery terminal and wait for more than one (1) minute, then reconnect the negative battery terminal.
E. Turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position.
F. Push the MAIN power switch "ON" (red line on the switch will be showing) and wait for 10 seconds.
G. Open the sliding door by pushing either the power sliding door control button (located on the right side of the dash by the radio or on the "B" pillar) or the remote switch on the key ring and allow the door to open all the way. Wait three (3) seconds after the motor stops running before proceeding.
H. Close the sliding door by pushing either the power sliding door control button (located on the right side of the dash by the radio or on the "B" pillar) or the remote control button and let the door close all the way. Wait three (3) seconds after the motor stops running before proceeding.
I. Repeat steps G and H.
NOTE:
- Steps G and H, described above, MUST be repeated.
- Battery voltage must not fall below 11.5 volts.
J. Confirm proper operation of the power sliding door system by pressing the buttons on the transmitter, B-pillar and instrument panel. If the system will not function properly, then perform step 3.
3. Replace the Power Sliding Door Control ECU.
A. If the power sliding door fails to function properly after performing steps 1 and 2 above, replace the Power Sliding Door Control ECU. The ECU is located behind the power drive assembly (refer to the appropriate model year Sienna Repair Manual for the ECU location information).
NOTE:
Check the date on the ECU bar code label of the new service part. If the date is BEFORE 5/06/02, the ECU should be replaced with an updated part.
B. After replacing the ECU, re-initialize the system by following step 2 above.
C. Confirm proper operation of the power drive assembly
