WHEEL BALANCE ACCURACY
The current design of wheels on Toyota vehicles makes it very difficult to achieve wheel balance accuracy using a conventional cone type wheel balance attachment. In recent years, the wheel centre design was changed to prevent seizing of the wheel to the hub.
To improve the accuracy of Dynamic Off-Car wheel balancing on all OEM Toyota wheels, a precision wheel adapter kit must be used. As you are aware, accurate wheel balancing is of utmost importance on our vehicles. Tuned suspensions require a level of wheel balancing accuracy not required on older products.
To assist you in achieving accurate Off-Car wheel balancing, TCI recommends using the Haweka flange adapter kit, which is available through our Special Service Tool supplier, SPX. To view this kit, refer to Toyota Special Service Tools catalogue.
HAWEKA FLANGE PLATE:
The Haweka Flange Adapter Kit fits wheel balancers manufactured by Accu, FMC, GeoDyna, Hennessy/Coats, Hunter and Snap-on. If your wheel balancer is a different brand, contact your wheel balancer manufacturer to see if these adapters will fit your equipment.
To determine the correct flange plates for your wheel balancer, accurately measure the shaft diameter to determine which of the four (4) adapter plates is applicable to your equipment, then call the SPX ORDER DESK at 1-800-933-8335, and place your order.
BALANCING PROCEDURES:
The Haweka Flange Plate uses the wheel lugnut holes and a centering cone to centre the wheel on the wheel balancer arbor shaft. As the wing nut is tightened, equal pressure is automatically applied to each stud, forcing the wheel to perfectly mount on the balancer (see Fig. 1).
1. Use the centering cone and flange plate combination #02001-02280, 02300, 02360 or 02400 on all five and six lugnut steel and alloy Toyota wheels. On all Tercel and Corolla plus '98 M.Y. and later Land Cruisers, use flange plate #02002-02280, 02300, 02360 or 02400.
2. Verify that the centering cone fits inside the wheel centre as well as inside the wheel balancer hub (see Fig. 2).
3. Always install the spring and centering cone towards the back side of the wheel (see Fig. 3).
