Instrument Cluster / Carrier: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

HINT: Screw shapes and sizes are indicated in the table. The codes ("A" - "N") correspond to those indicated on the table.

1. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL AND PAD

2. REMOVE FRONT DOOR SCUFF PLATES
Remove the 8 screws and front door scuff plates.

3. REMOVE COWL SIDE TRIMS
4. REMOVE COLUMN UPPER AND LOWER COVERS AND COMBINATION SWITCH WITH SPIRAL CABLE




5. REMOVE LOWER FINISH PANEL
a. Remove the 4 bolts.
b. Remove the 2 screws and disconnect the hood lock release lever.
c. Remove the 2 screws and disconnect the fuel rid release lever.
d. Using a screwdriver, remove the lower finish panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

6. REMOVE NO.2 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
Remove the screw and No.2 heater to register duct.

7. REMOVE NO.1 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
a. REMOVE STARTER SWITCH BEZEL
Using a screwdriver, pry out the starter switch bezel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




9. REMOVE CLUSTER FINISH PANEL
Remove the 4 screws and cluster finish panel.

10. REMOVE COMBINATION METER
a. Disconnect the connectors.
b. Remove the 4 screws and combination meter.




11. REMOVE PARKING BRAKE HOLE COVER
Using a screwdriver, pry out the parking brake hole cover.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




12. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL
Using a screwdriver, pry out the upper console panel.

HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use.




13. REMOVE CENTER CLUSTER FINISH PANEL

HINT: Remove the clips in order "A","B","C" and "D" shown in the illustration.

a. Insert your hand under the center cluster finish panel and remove the "A" clips.
b. Insert your hand between the instrument panel and center cluster finish panel and remove the rest of clips, then remove the center cluster finish panel.
c. Disconnect the connectors.




14. REMOVE REAR CONSOLE BOX
a. Remove the heater control knob.
b. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 screws and rear console box.




15. REMOVE UPPER CONSOLE PANEL GARNISH
a. Remove the clip and upper console panel garnish.
b. Employ the same manner described above to the other side.




16. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR
a. Remove the 2 screws and glove compartment door.
b. Disconnect the front passenger airbag connector.

NOTE: When handling the airbag connector, take care not to damage the airbag wire harness.




17. REMOVE LOWER NO.2 FINISH PANEL
a. Remove the glove box light.
b. Remove the 3 bolts and lower No.2 finish panel.




18. REMOVE GLOVE COMPARTMENT DOOR REINFORCEMENT
Remove the 3 bolts and glove compartment door reinforcement.

19. REMOVE NO.4 HEATER TO REGISTER DUCT
20. REMOVE RADIO ASSEMBLY

21. REMOVE SIDE BRACKET
Remove the bolt and side bracket.

22. Manual A/C:
REMOVE HEATER CONTROL ASSEMBLY

23. Auto A/C:
REMOVE A/C CONTROL ASSEMBLY




24. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL
a. Disconnect the airbag connector.
b. Remove the nut and 2 bolts, as shown in the illustration.
Torque:
Bolt: 19 N.m (195 kgf.cm, 14 ft.lbf)

NOTE: Make sure the front passenger airbag assembly is installed to the specified torque.

c. Remove the screw and center heater to register duct.
d. Remove the instrument panel.

25. REMOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL REINFORCEMENT
a. Remove the 2 bolts, nut and No.1 brace.
b. Remove the bolt, nut and No.2 brace.




c. Remove the 4 nuts and 2 bolts, as shown in the illustration.
d. Remove the steering column assembly.
e. Remove the defroster nozzle.
f. Remove the instrument panel reinforcement.

INSTALLATION
Installation is in the reverse order of removal.
