Wiper and Washer System

INSPECTION




W/Mist:




W/Intermittent:




1. INSPECT FRONT WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY
If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.




2. INSPECT INTERMITTENT OPERATION
a. Turn the wiper switch to INT position.
b. Turn the intermittent time control switch to FAST position.
c. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 16 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2.




d. Connect the positive (+) lead from the voltmeter to terminal 7 and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2, then check that the meter needle indicates battery positive voltage.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the wiper and washer switch.







3. INSPECT REAR WIPER AND WASHER SWITCH CONTINUITY
If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.




4. INSPECT WASHER LINKED OPERATION
a. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 16, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2.
b. Connect the positive (+) lead from the voltmeter to terminal 7, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2.




c. Push the washer switch, and check that the voltage changes as shown in the chart.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the wiper and washer switch.




5. Low Speed:
INSPECT FRONT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to the motor body, and check that the motor operates at low speed.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor.




6. High Speed:
INSPECT FRONT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to the motor body, and check that the motor operates at high speed.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor.

7. Stopping at Stop Position:
INSPECT FRONT WIPER MOTOR OPERATION




a. Operate the motor at low speed and stop the motor operation anywhere except at the stop position by disconnecting the positive (+) lead from terminal 2.




b. Connect terminals 2 and 3.
c. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 4 and the negative (-) lead from the battery to the motor body, and check that the motor stops running at the stop position after the motor has operated again.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor.




8. INSPECT REAR WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
a. Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 3, then check that the motor turns clockwise.




b. Reverse the polarity, and check that the motor turns counterclockwise.
If the operation is not as specified, replace the motor.







9. INSPECT REAR WIPER MOTOR CONTINUITY
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, then inspect the continuity between terminals.
If the continuity is not as specified, replace the motor.




10. w/o Daytime Running Light:
INSPECT FRONT WASHER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 2, then check that the motor operates.

NOTE: These tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.




11. w/ Daytime Running Light:
INSPECT FRONT WASHER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 2, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 1, then check that the motor operates.

NOTE: These tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.




12. w/o Daytime Running Light:
INSPECT REAR WASHER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 3, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 4, then check that the motor operates.

NOTE: These tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.




13. w/ Daytime Running Light:
INSPECT REAR WASHER MOTOR OPERATION
Connect the positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 5, and the negative (-) lead to terminal 4, then check that the motor operates.

NOTE: These tests must be performed quickly (within 20 seconds) to prevent the coil from burning out.
