SIDE STEP BAR NOISE
A Tacoma Side Step Bar Hardware Kit has been created for dealers to repair abnormal noise conditions (ie. squeaking, rattling, and/or knocking) stemming from the Tacoma Side Tube Step Bars.
As of April 15, 2002 (Date Code: 15D02), all production kits have been produced without nut plates. Refer to the date code located on the part number label.
Date Code nomenclature XXYZZ:
XX = Date
Y = Corresponding month ( A = January, B = February, etc.)
ZZ = Year
The Tacoma Side Step Bar hardware kit (C0515-35020-HW) contains:
- 4 each: 8 mm Hex Bolts
- 4 each: 8 mm Lock Washers
- 4 each: 8 mm Flat washers
- 4 each: 8 mm Flange Nuts
NOTE:
Even though the original installation utilizes the same 8 mm hex bolts, lock washers and flat washers, they must be replaced with new hardware when the replacement kit is installed.
APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 2001 - 2002 model year Tacoma trucks.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
The rear bracket location on all Tacoma models has not changed. Brackets are still installed to the vehicle in the same method as demonstrated in the Instruction Sheet. The ONLY change is the discontinued use of the two (2) nut plates.
Installation of Flange Nuts
1. Station the Side Step Bar rear mounting bracket in place with the 8 mm hex bolts that have the lock washer and flat washer already slipped on as shown at right.
2. Using a 13 mm wrench, nest and locate an 8 mm nut into position. Hold the nut in place with the wrench, while tightening up the 8 mm bolts, as shown at right.
Torque: 18 ft-lbs
3. Repeat this process for the second bolt on the mounting bracket.
Torque: 18 ft-lbs
4. Repeat the process for the rear bracket on the opposite side of the vehicle.
