Subject:
INSTALLATION OF CHILD RESTRAINT SYSTEM
Tacoma Xtra-Cab models only (sold in Canada) have an anchor for securing the top strap of a child restraint system. The anchor nut is welded beneath the sheet metal to permit installation of an anchor bracket for the child restraint system. To gain access to the anchor nut, it is necessary to remove the back panel upper garnish, (see illustration).
To install the anchor bracket, use an 8mm x 30mm x 1.25mm coarse thread metric bolt.
NOTE:
Bolts accompanying many child restraint systems are non-metric and can damage the anchor nut threads.
The following 'Anchor Bracket and Bolt Assy' and the 'Child Restraint System Kit' are available from supply parts.
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS:
1. Remove back panel upper garnish.
2. Dimension the garnish from left to right on its flat surface as shown below; L = 283mm, H = 17mm.
3. Using a hole cutter or unibit (step drill), drill a hole 25mm (1.0 in) diameter as indicated below.
4. Reinstall back panel upper garnish.
5. Install anchor bracket and bolt, torque bolt to 168-252 kgf-cm, 16-24 N-m (12-18 ft.lb).
NOTE:
It is necessary to remove the spacer part number 90560-08061 from the anchor bracket and bolt assembly and replace it with the 15mm thick spacer (the thickest of the three spacers) supplied in the CRS Kit part number 04731-22012, prior to performing Step #5 above.
