M.I.L. "ON" DTC P0136
Some 2002 model year Tacoma trucks equipped with a 4-cylinder 2RZ-FE engine may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with a Diagnostic Trouble Code P0136 Engine Control Module or ECM (SAE term: Powertrain Control Module/PCM). The updated ECM (PCM) has been made available to prevent repeat failures sensor. Use the following procedure to replace the ECM (PCM).
APPLICABLE VEHICLES: 2002 model year Tacoma 2WD trucks equipped with 4-Cylinder 2RZ-FE engine.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Follow the Repair Manual diagnostic procedure for DTC P0136 on ETAS or the 2002 model year Tacoma Repair Manual, Volume 1.
2. If diagnosis leads to replacement of sub-O2 sensor, install new sub-O2 and updated ECM. Refer to Engine Control Module (ECM) location on ETAS model year Repair Manual, Volume 2.
