Introduction

Under certain driving conditions, some 2003 - 2004 model year 1GR-FE (V6) 4Runner vehicles may exhibit a M.I.L. "ON" condition with one of the following DTCs.

^ P0136 (Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction [Bank 1, Sensor 2])

^ P0156 (Oxygen Sensor Circuit Malfunction [Bank 2, Sensor 2])

The design of the Oxygen Sensor has been modified to prevent these conditions.

Applicable Vehicles

2003 - 2004 model year 4Runner vehicles equipped with 1GR-FE (V6) engine.

Warranty Information

Applicable Warranty*:
This repair is covered under the Toyota Federal Emissions Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 36 months or 36,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

* Warranty application is limited to correction of a problem based upon a customer's specific complaint.





Required SSTs

Repair Procedure

1. Confirm the stored DTC using the Toyota Diagnostic Tester.

2. Replace the rear Oxygen Sensor related to the stored" DTC. Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS), 2003 or 2004 model year 4Runner Repair Manual: Emission Control: Emission Control System (1GR-FE): Location.

3. Clear code and road test to confirm repair.
