INTRODUCTION:
Some 2003 - 2004 model year 4Runner vehicles may exhibit a MIL "ON" condition with one or more of the following DTCs: P0442 & P0455 or P0456. Use the repair procedure below to address this condition.

REQUIRED TOOLS & EQUIPMENT:

NOTE:
Additional Techstream or Techstream LITE units may be ordered by completing the order form on ETAS (Tools > Tools and Equipment > Order Form) and faxing it to (416) 431-8342.


REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Using ETAS Techstream, confirm that one or more of the following DTCs are set: P0442, P0455, or P0456.
2. Inspect the fuel cap.
Does it tighten properly?
- YES - Proceed to step 3.
- NO - Replace the fuel cap, then proceed to step 4.

3. Inspect the EVAP system for the leak source.
Refer to the Repair Manual within E-TAS / TIS library:

- Keyword: SFI System (2UZ-FE): P0441, P0442, P0446, P0456 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected

Was the leak source isolated at the fuel cap to filler pipe sealing area?
- YES - Replace the fuel cap, then proceed to step 4.
- NO - This TSB does NOT apply - Refer to the Repair Manual for further diagnosis.


4. Clear DTCs. Repair is complete.
